Some properties have a service used to split utility costs between roommates. There are several online services that can help roommates keep track of utility expenses. Some services have a one-time setup fee, or a monthly service charge, so budget for that as well.


If your lease does not include power, set up electricity through Alabama Power. They can provide a 12-month average of the power bill at a particular address. To request information, call their Residential Customer Service line at 1-800-245-2244 and choose to speak to billing (M-F 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. CST).
